What Diet Is Best?

What Diet Is Best?

Paleo, #cleaneating, gluten free/grain free/sugar free, Rawtil4, banana 'nicecream' spilling out of mason jars, High Carb-Low Fat (or Low Carb-High Fat depending on which side of the nutrition fence you fall), #vegan, #bacon, artsy acai bowls and the latest 'Superfood'...

The health industry is flooded with catchy buzz words and endless back and forth banter over which diet is best. The hype surrounding the 'right' way to eat dominates social media platforms like it's the latest fashion trend. It's cool to be gluten free right?

Good nutrition isn't a trend. It's not about what's hot on Instagram. With this plethora of information, it's easy to become overwhelmed. What should we be eating? Is fat in higher doses good or bad? What about animal protein? Is it a problem if we eat fruit? Should we be avoiding grains? #CONFUSED.

Let's flip the perspective. What should you be eating? Thing is, our bodies are not made up in exactly the same way. What works for me will not necessarily work for you. There is no 'one size fits all' with diet.

Personally, I take bits and pieces from multiple 'diets' and fit them to my needs (i.e. my intolerances, taste preferences and what does or does not make me feel my best). For example, what I can and like to eat differs from my partner. We consume the same dinner but all other meals are different to accommodate to our personal requirements and preferences. I do believe we should get back to basics and eat real food. But how that looks will be individual and personalised to suit your needs.

So what diet should we be eating? Whatever you need to eat to feel your most vibrant, flourishing self. Listen less to the noise that pollutes your social media feeds, and a little more to what your body is calling for.
